For use by the employee to request holidays, and for the employer to authorise the holiday being requested, or not.
Question
A member of staff has requested holiday but we have refused it as too many people are off on the same week. What can we do if the employee then 'goes off sick' during that time?
Answer
You must make it clear to the employee prior to their requested holiday dates (preferrably in writing) that you are likely to consider any time off taken during the requested dates as 'sick leave' as a potential disciplinary matter. If this does happen you must carry out a full and thorough investigation of the facts before issuing discipline sanctions.
